TEd Search Help Course and Qualification Search This tool allows you to search for the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) approved qualifications and courses that are available from New Zealand Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, Wananga and Private Training Establishments. The courses and qualifications that are listed in this search tool are not the entire list of qualifications and courses available in New Zealand. It is recommended that other sources of information and advice be investigated to complement the information given in this search tool. Searching for Qualifications The fields in the qualification search portion of the page are all optional, which allows you to select only the criteria you wish to search on. Upon returning the search results, a link will appear on the detail page allowing you to view a list of similar qualifications. Qualification Title Here you can enter a whole title or part of a title. You can specify whether the search will look for results that are similar to the word(s) you supply (by selecting Like), or exactly match the word(s) you supply (by selecting Exact). For instance, searching by selecting Like and entering Science might return results like Bachelor of Science and Diploma of Science. Searching by selecting Exact would require you to enter the exact full course name, such as Bachelor of Science. Qualification Subject The course subject search uses the NZSCED classification for courses (refer to the entry on NZSCED). It allows you to search a subject area at two levels of detail. For example, when looking for statistics based qualifications selections could be made at any of the following levels: Broad – Natural and Physical Sciences Narrow – Mathematical Sciences A complete listing of the NZSCED categories is available by clicking on the link to the right of the qualification subject field. Qualification Award This allows searches to include only those qualifications of the specified award type. For example, Degree, Diploma, Doctorate etc. Searching for Courses This lists individual courses by subject area or keyword fields you specify. As with the qualification search, the criteria are all optional. However, the more information that is provided, the more specific the search results will be. Course Title This is similar to the Qualification Title field, in that you may enter either a part of, or the whole title using the Like or Exact option. Course Title Keywords As an alternative you may list a few keywords to search on, for instance you could enter art and design to look for fine arts or design courses. Course Subject This is also based on the NZSCED classification system and allows searching by course subject at three levels of detail. The results may tell you if the course is available by e-Learning. e-Learning courses are defined as: Web-based - online access by students is essential to undertaking the course. Web-enhanced - online access by students is expected but not absolutely required. Web-supported - online access by students is optional. Institution Details This allows the search results to be limited to a specific Institution, Institution Type and/or the Institutions in a geographic region. Institution Name In addition to the Qualification Search and the Course Search details, further focus can be added to only search a specific institution. Institution Region This lists a result only if provider has a presence in a region, such as Wellington or Southland. Institution Type Further to this a specific type of institution can be specified to limit results, for example Wänanga, University, Private Training Establishment, Polytech, or College of Education. NZSCED The New Zealand Standard Classification of Education (NZSCED) is a subject-based classification system for courses at universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, wananga and private training establishments in receipt of Government funding. This classification system has been developed by the Ministry of Education in conjunction with Statistics New Zealand and the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Fees vary, for similar courses, between organisations for a variety of reasons. Please consult the relevant organisation for complete and up-to-date information.
